Terms & conditions

Terms of service

The rules that apply when you use The Network and when you take out a paid membership.

These terms form an agreement between you and The Network ("we", "us") when you register an account, use the-network-uk.org or take out a paid membership. Please read them alongside our privacy policy. If anything is unclear, email info@the-network-uk.org.

1. Joining and accounts

  • Registration is free. Creating an account requires a valid email address, which you must confirm to activate it.
  • You must be resident in the United Kingdom and aged 16 or over to register.
  • You provide accurate details when confirming your account (name, postcode and required profile information) and keep them up to date.
  • You are responsible for keeping your password confidential and for activity that happens under your account.
  • One account per person. Accounts may be suspended if details are false, if an account is used to impersonate someone else, or if these terms are breached.

2. Paid membership

  • Paid membership is an ongoing subscription service providing access to the benefits and services associated with the member's chosen membership level. Membership subscriptions are payments for those services and benefits, not donations.
  • Membership subscriptions are optional. You can participate in your county and community groups without paying.
  • Four paid tiers are available: Supporter (£2/month or £20/year), Member (£5/month or £50/year), Champion (£10/month or £100/year) and VIP (£25/month or £250/year).
  • All tiers include the core membership benefits, including access to the Locate safety app. Higher tiers carry additional benefits, which we may update.
  • Stripe securely processes The Network's paid membership subscriptions. Subscription prices are shown at checkout before you pay and may change with reasonable notice.
  • The Network does not currently accept voluntary donations. Card payments are for paid membership subscriptions only.

3. Billing, renewal and cancellation

  • Subscriptions renew automatically — monthly plans every month, annual plans every 12 months — until cancelled.
  • You can cancel at any time through the Manage Billing button in your member area, or by emailing info@the-network-uk.org.
  • Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period. No further payment is taken after you cancel, and you keep your paid benefits until then.
  • When your paid period ends, your account remains active as a free supporter and your paid benefits stop.
  • If a payment fails we will email you. Access to paid benefits may pause until the payment is brought up to date.
  • Under consumer law, you may cancel a new subscription within 14 days of payment for a full refund, unless you have asked for benefits to start immediately and confirmed you accept losing that right.

4. Acceptable use

  • Be lawful and respectful. Threats, harassment, hate speech, unlawful content and incitement to violence are not permitted anywhere on the platform, including county groups.
  • Do not share another member's contact details outside the platform, scrape member data, or use the member directory for commercial gain.
  • Do not attempt to access accounts, data or systems that are not yours, or interfere with the operation of the site.
  • Serious breaches may lead to immediate suspension or removal of your account, and where relevant, we will report unlawful activity to the police.

5. Member conduct in county and community groups

  • Contact details are shared between members only where a member has explicitly opted in, and only inside the secure member area.
  • Member names may appear in county group listings and service emails; full contact details never appear in emails.
  • You use any contact details shared with you solely for Network community purposes and not for marketing, solicitation or any other use.

6. Merchandise and other purchases

  • Network merchandise purchases are handled separately from membership subscriptions. Paid members receive a 10% discount on merchandise.
  • Where merchandise checkout is available, delivery times, returns and refunds will be stated at the point of sale and follow UK consumer law.

7. Emails and communications

  • By registering you agree to receive essential service emails, such as email verification, account recovery, membership confirmations and your welcome message.
  • Non-essential community emails (such as county team updates) respect your communication preferences, which you can change in your profile at any time, and include an opt-out route.
  • We do not sell your email address or send third-party advertising.

8. Availability and changes to the service

  • We work to keep the platform available, but we cannot guarantee uninterrupted access. Features may change, be suspended or be withdrawn as the platform develops.
  • We may update these terms. Material changes that affect your membership will be notified to members by email, and continuing to use the platform after changes are published means you accept the updated terms.

9. Limitation of liability

  • The platform is provided "as is". To the fullest extent permitted by law, we exclude liability for indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of the platform.
  • Nothing in these terms limits liability for fraud, death or personal injury caused by negligence, or any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
  • Content published by members or group organisers reflects their views, not necessarily ours.
